Production / Greenhouse Manager m/f, Ethiopia

 

The company

Our client is an ambitious and internationally operating quality company which concentrates itself on the production of cuttings and young plants. It has representative offices and/or production subsidiaries in North America, Africa, Central America and Europe.

In Ethiopia the company produces mother plants and cuttings and is located some 90 kms. south of the capital city Addis Ababa. The 36 ha modern greenhouse production is being operated with aprox. 350 employees and produces parental material of Poinsettia, Pelargonium and a variety of bedding plants. The vacancy presented here means an extension of the present management team to enable the further growth of the location.

 

The position

The Production / Greenhouse Manager will report to the General Manager and is responsible for:

- the organizational and horticultural management of the production location, comprising:

- production planning (quantities, workforce, production deadlines) - greenhouse management (climate, pest & diseases, fertigation) - quality (monitoring & control of mother plants and cuttings) - production personnel (daily management, hiring, training) - Improvement of working and output efficiency

Overall his/her goal is to realize with the team of supervisors, group leaders and general workers, a consistent production and harvest of rooted and unrooted cuttings, that meet the required quality standards.

 

The requirements:

• a profound horticultural grower background (knowledge as well as experience) • organizational and improvisational feeling and skills • leadership skills with a coaching style • experience with working in an overseas country is preferred • good command of English in word and writing • a reasonable command of the German language is appreciated • user knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook • respect of the local culture • prepared to settle in Ethiopia for min. three years
